Westminster has designed a unique, private edition of Facebook for our online learning community. We have taken "Workplace by Facebook," a new product for business communities, and converted it into a higher education platform for our program. The result is an easy-to-use platform and amazing mobile apps, all private and entirely separate from the regular "Facebook" site.
All faculty, students, and staff meet here to connect with peers, share resources, message and video chat, and more. You’ll eventually find groups forming around student interests, job and ministry opportunities, alumni, and more.
Access your Westminster student Facebook account
You will receive an email to your student account that indicates you have been invited into our online learning community. Simply click the link in the email to accept and set your password to begin.
We encourage you to add a photo and set your profile with any info you would like to share with the community. You can always return to our Facebook community from the Westminster Dashboard or by visiting wts.facebook.com.
View your class group page
The Westminster staff will add you to your class groups at the beginning of each term. Shortcuts to these are listed under "Teams & Projects" on the left panel.
You will use your class group to discuss course content with the other students and faculty enrolled in the course. Post to the main news feed in the center, or choose individual people or groups to message privately on the right or with the chat feature.
Importantly, you will come to this course group on Facebook to see the posted video responses from your instructors to your small group questions.
Join other community groups
Feel free to connect with peers across the student body. You will see other student interests groups created that you are welcome to join and interact with. You can create groups of friends or peers to stay connected and chat. Many small groups assigned in classes like to create a group here in Facebook for themselves to stay connected through the term.
Mobile apps
The mobile apps are an excellent way to stay connected and communicate with peers and discussions. Note that you do not use the regular Facebook apps, but a special set listed below. Just sign in to these with the "Workplace by Facebook" account you setup at the beginning.
Main app: Search "Workplace by Facebook" on your app store
Messaging-focused app: Search "Work Chat by Facebook" on your app store
FAQs
Q: Are the regular Facebook site accounts and the Westminster student Facebook community related in any way?
A: No. Your Westminster student Facebook account has nothing to do with Facebook.com, nor do you need a regular Facebook account to join our student community. Our community is in a separate location and a has separate sign-in account.
Q: Who should I follow? What is the purpose of "following"?
A: "Following" someone will cause that person's activity in Facebook to rise or linger toward the top your Activity Feed. You may also opt to receive notifications when someone you follow is active. This is an optional feature of Facebook.
